INTRODUCTION
The Vessel Traffic Management and Information System (VTMIS) is an extension of the Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) and it is advanced integrated solution suitable for monitoring and surveillance purposes. The range of its functions, interfacing with sensors and system flexibility, integrated services for direct sharing of VTS data or access to certain subsystems makes it a highly efficient and configurable solution for small, medium sized and large ports and harbors.
This training course will extensively provide details of the subject areas, knowledge and practical competence required to undertake the duties associated with VTMIS operations.
The GLOMACS Vessel Traffic Management and Information System (VTMIS) training course shall cover areas such as:
- Vessel traffic management
- Local knowledge of the VTS area and legislative framework
- Communication co-ordination
- Equipment used at the VTS centre
- Operational and emergency procedures
Objectives
This training course is intended to provide the knowledge, practical competence, and proficiency to perform day-to-day operations at a particular VTMIS centre.
The Vessel Traffic Management and Information System (VTMIS) training course provides the curriculum to ensure a delegate has the requisite knowledge, understanding and proficiency to:
- Operate equipment used at the VTMIS centre
- Provide timely and relevant information on factors that may influence the transit of a ship and assist on-board decision making
- Monitor and manage traffic to ensure the safety and efficiency of ship movements
- Respond to developing unsafe situations to assist the decision-making process on board
- Ensure that co-ordination takes place between the VTMIS, allied services and other port facilities and services
